Equality Commission starts proceedings against HK karaoke club that charged man higher entry fee

Hong Kong’s Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) has started legal proceedings against a karaoke club after a man complained that he was charged a higher entry fee because of his sex.
On Saturday, the EOC announced that it would pursue the case against the owner of the unnamed karaoke club and disco on the grounds of the Sex Discrimination Ordinance.
The claimant says he was charged a higher entry fee than female patrons and received the same services inside, i.e. no special back patting for the fact that he has a penis.
In a statement, the EOC said, “It is unlawful for a service provider to treat a customer less favourably than another customer in comparable circumstances because of a customer’s sex. By taking this case to Court, the EOC hopes to raise the public’s awareness that there should not be less favourable treatment on the ground of sex in the provision of services even if it is for the purpose of business promotion.”
That’s Ladies’ Night screwed then.
