The government's environmental advisors have accused the Airport Authority of missing key points when it proposed a marine park to make up for the environmental impact of the planned third runway.

Despite the criticism, the Advisory Council on the Environment endorsed the proposed 2,400 hectare park – in waters north of the existing airport.

It is a mitigation measure for 650 hectares of reclamation needed for the planned runway.

Several council members say they are concerned that the proposed park doesn't put a strong enough emphasis on conserving the habitat of the endangered Chinese white dolphins.
