Security chief escapes into dreamland at Legco meeting

Secretary for Security Lai Tung-kwok was caught taking a nap for up to 20 minutes while Chief Secretary Carrie Lam was delivering a speech on political reform at the Legislative Council on Wednesday.

Lai was spotted falling asleep midway through the meeting, with his body leaning towards the right, as Lam unveiled the second phase of the government’s public consultation on the political reform proposal for the 2017 chief executive election, Apple Daily reported.

Lai did not respond to reporters’ questions after the meeting, but a spokesperson for the security bureau said the secretary was not feeling well on Wednesday and had taken influenza pills before the meeting, suggesting it was the side effect of the medication that might have led him to take a nap.

Of course, it couldn’t be the Chief Secretary’s weighty speech that lulled him into dreamland.
