Various political parties have blasted the Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) for not doing enough to weed out what they called "phantom voters" as the registration of voters drew to a close on Tuesday.

Members of the Democratic Party, the Association for Democracy and People's Livelihood, and the League of Social Democrats rallied outside EAC's office. They said the voters could potentially rig the District Council polls in November.

The chief executive of the Democratic Party, Lam Cheuk-ting, said the system only allows objections to be raised before the registration closes and that this was a loophole.

A number of pro-democracy political parties have called on the government to investigate suspicious voters' addresses.
