Are you a Hong Kong man? Good news. You might live longer than anyone else in the world. Plenty of time to enjoy the convenience of adult nappies.
According to the latest figures from the Census and Statistics Department (CSD), at 81.2 years, Hong Kong men have the highest life expectancy in the world for the second year in a row.
They’re followed by the fellas in chilly old Iceland who live to an average of 80.8 years, and old lads in Japan, Singapore and Switzerland who share the glory of joint third place with 80.5 years.
If you’re a Hong Kong woman, however, you can expect to be rocking those diapers for a whole lot longer, with your average life expectancy coming in at an impressive 86.7 years. Ladies in Japan live even longer with an average of 86.83 years, while Spain picks up third place with 85.6.
The CSD puts the rising life expectancy in Hong Kong down to better medical service and increased public awareness about health issues.
Meanwhile, the number of births stood at 62,305 last year, down a long way from its 2012 peak of 91,558.
Before you start to worry we’re becoming extinct, however, rest assured that the government thinks this could be to do with a crackdown on mainlanders giving birth in Hong Kong.
