The Secretary-general of the Federation of Students, Alex Chow, says students hope to resume dialogue with the Chief Secretary on political reform
-- provided the government is willing to conduct an in-depth investigation into whether the police had selectively enforced the law when anti-Occupy Central protesters clashed with Occupy Central participants in Mong Kok on Friday.
Mr Chow added that he also hopes to reach a compromise with the government, where mass street protests would continue, but demonstrators could open up a pathway to the Central Government Offices to allow people to get to work and ease tensions.
He said if violence does break out, the Federation may ask protesters to disperse.
Police sources, however, say they have no intention of clearing the scene overnight as long as the sit-in remains peaceful.
