CY rebutts Martin Lee's letter to NYT

The Chief Executive, C Y Leung, has sent a letter to the New York Times, rebutting a previous letter by veteran democrat Martin Lee, which accused Beijing and the SAR government of denying Hong Kong people true democracy.
Mr Leung stressed any suggestion that the central government is interfering in the SAR's electoral reform debate is "unfounded".
In the letter, Mr Leung said the SAR government has maintained the common law legal system, a clean and efficient government, and an independent judiciary ever since the handover.
He also stressed that both the Joint Declaration and the Basic Law state that the winner of a chief executive election will be appointed by the Central People's Government.
