The police’s PR rep, Hui Chun-Tak—also known semi-affectionately as Hui Sir by those keeping up with his daily statements—announced yesterday that since Oct. 3, 94 people have been arrested in occupied Mong Kok.
The arrested include 87 men and seven women aged between 18 and 71. They were detained for the offences of “common assault, criminal damage, disorderly conduct in public place, resisting arrest, obstructing a police officer, possession of offensive weapon, etc.”
That “etc” leaves our imaginations running wild. What are those other offences? We’ve reached out to the police for clarification, so watch this space.
Hui Sir also stated that the police got into confrontations with “radical protesters” when they charged the police cordon lines, leaving 61 officers injured.
He again urged people, especially “children, students, and youths”, to stay away from the unlawful assemblies in the high-risk area of Mong Kok in order to avoid getting hurt.
Finally, having heard of people wanting to donate money to support the police officers, Hui Sir reminded these generous members of the public that all donations would have to be screened in accordance to bribery laws.
It would be unfortunate if a well-meaning Hongkonger accidentally implicated a police officer in a corruption case. They definitely don’t need the bad PR right now.
