After a successful campaign in Taiwan saw travellers rebrand themselves as members of the "Republic of Taiwan" on their passports, Hong Kong based designer San Gaai Si(phonetic translation of the Cantonese for "New Market") was inspired to create a set of passport stickers of Hong Kong's most famous icons.
The stickers feature landmarks like our famed Central skyline and Lion Rock, as well as an umbrella to commemorate Occupy Central, martial arts hero Bruce Lee (who would have turned 75 yesterday!), the Star Ferry and the distinctive Chinese sailing junk.
One sticker featured the colonial coat of arms, which we feel sort of defeats the point of a declaration of independence...but we digress.
While the previous campaign has resulted in an amendment to Taiwanese passport laws prohibiting the attachment of stickers to Republic of China passports, San Gaai Si is less concerned about backlash in Hong Kong.
Talking to Hong Kong Free Press, he astutely pointed out that permanent residents pass through immigration using just our ID cards.
