Yvonne Leung steals the show at govt-student talks
Yvonne Leung, president of the University of Hong Kong Students’ Union, has won high praise from the media and the public for the debating skills that she displayed at the government-student talks on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old has been complimented for her calmness and great control of thought while bombarding the government officials with sharp questions.
A well-trained debater since her secondary school days, Leung had been crowned the top performer in at least ten open debate competitions, Apple Daily noted.
Tasked with firing questions related to legal issues, Leung was hoping the meeting with government representatives would let members of the public to see the truth.
Humbly admitting that she felt some stress at the meeting, Leung said she has received dozens of messages of blessings and encouragement from friends and classmates, including old debate team teammates at Heep Yunn School.
Leung was among the five Hong Kong Federation of Students (HKFS) representatives that faced the government officials Tuesday evening.
She was seen exchanging remarks with Justice Secretary Rimsky Yuen — an HKU alumnus himself — over several legal viewpoints.
A YouTube video clip showing Leung at a debating competition three years ago, in which she was crowned the best debater, has received over 56,000 views.
