The Chief Executive’s wife, Regina Leung, on Monday urged the media and the public not to disturb her daughter no matter how dissatisfied they are with society or the political system.

She was speaking to the media about the incident at the nightlife hotspot, Lan Kwai Fong, on Halloween night when she was slapped by her 24-year-old daughter, Leung Chai-yan. The incident was widely shared on the social media.

Regina Leung said Chai-yan was celebrating Halloween with friends at a restaurant but was followed by reporters. She said the situation was chaotic and she was called by Chai-yan’s friends to pick her up. She said scuffles started when some reporters tried to get into a car with her daughters. She said Chai-yan merely wanted to protect her friends.

Asked about how she feels about being slapped by her daughter, Regina Leung said Chai-yan was drunk and didn’t mean to offend anyone.

She described Chai-yan as a kind-hearted little girl who loves animals. She said her daughter needed rest.

The Chief Executive did not comment on the incident as he attended an event on Sunday.
