The widely-tipped candidate to head the new Innovation and Technology Bureau (ITB), former Polytechnic University executive vice-president Nicholas Yang, has said the public are happy that the long-awaited Bureau is about to be set up.
On Friday, Legco's Finance Committee finally approved a funding proposal to set up the controversial Bureau. Past efforts had been stymied by filibustering by pan-democrats who have questioned the need for such a bureau, and its cost.
Yang, the adviser to the Chief Executive on Innovation and Technology, said the government would have to go through regulatory procedures to name a head for the bureau. But he sidestepped a question whether he would become the chief of the new bureau.
