An environmental group has warned that Hong Kong is unprepared if a major storm were to hit the city.
The World Green Organisation said the infrastructure of the SAR would be crippled and the cross-harbour tunnel would be flooded if an extraordinary storm hits the area.
The group said Hong Kong has been lucky enough to have avoided most super typhoons as they always turned away from the territory in the previous years.
"We have constructed a perfect storm scenario, which is possible by the end of the century." said William Yu, the organisation's chief executive officer.
Yu said when storm surge happens, heavy rain, coupled with big wind as well as astronomical tide, could lead to an extreme sea level rise.
He warned that when the sea level rise exceeds six meters, the cross-harbor tunnel would be flooded.
