An environmentalist group claimed on Friday that materials seized by police from a Kwai Chung industrial building were actually stuff used for recycling and waste reduction processes.
Dozens of activists from the group “Grebbish” gathered outside Kwai Chung Police Station to show their support for three people arrested on suspicion of possessing weapons and dangerous chemicals.
“It is a very big misunderstanding… they [police] found some [items that seem] to be quite dangerous but actually, they are the raw materials to produce environmentally-friendly detergents and daily utensils”, a member of the group, Celia Fung, said.
Fung added that none of the three people arrested were in Mong Kok during the clashes, and she doesn’t see how they could be linked to the chaos.
Two women and one man were arrested on Thursday after officers said they seized items like chemicals, masks, knives and iron rods, as well as walkie-talkies and toy guns from the unit at an industrial building. Police also had said they would not rule a link between the case and Mong Kok clashes.
