Helena Wong talks to RTHK's Yvonne Lou
Democratic Party legislator Helena Wong said on Friday that the government appears to be paving the way for a second attempt to introduce highly-controversial national education in schools.
In a consultation paper issued in November, the Education Bureau proposed more lessons on national identity, Chinese history and the Basic Law, and less emphasis on things like social justice.
Wong told RTHK's Yvonne Lou that the changes wouldn't be good for students as it does not give an insight into the difference between the local identity and national identity.
The consultation ends on Monday and Wong called on the bureau to postpone the deadline by another three months to allow more discussion among stakeholders.
An attempt to launch national education in 2012 was shelved after of an angry backlash from schools and students.
