Eight activists, including the League of Social Democrats' Raphael Wong and Eddie Chu from the Land League Justice, have returned to the ground after staging an overnight protest on top of a tower crane at the construction site of the Express Rail West Kowloon Terminus.

The activists hung banners on the crane during the night, calling for an immediate halt to the construction of the controversial railway.

They also opposed any immigration arrangements that allow mainland officials to work in Hong Kong. Many people have voiced concern that such an arrangement would violate the “one country, two systems” principle.

Costs for the project have also grown far beyond original estimates, with the government having to ask Legco for an additional HK$19.6 billion.
