Unruly protests and scuffles between protesters and organisers erupted at a labour sector spring reception attended by the Chief Executive, CY Leung on Monday.
Around 30 demonstrators from the Confederation of Trade Unions (CTU), who were a part of the audience, brought out placards and started shouting slogans as the Chief Executive arrived for the function. The event was organised by the Federation of Trade Unions and other labour groups at a restaurant in North Point.
The protesters demanded standard working hours and universal retirement protection. They shouted slogans asking the Chief Executive to fulfill his election pledge made in 2012 and cancel the MPF offset mechanism.
After some pushing and shoving between organisers and the protesters, the event continued while protesters continued their noisy protests at the rear end of the function room.
The Chief Executive left slightly early from the reception, but left the scene without any problem.
One of the demonstrators, Wong Yu-loi from the CTU, alleged that some protesters were pushed to the ground by unionists from the pro-government camp.
