We’ve had “Under a Vast Sky”, “Do You Hear the People Sing?” and even “Happy Birthday”, but it was only a matter of time until someone wrote a song especially for Hong Kong’s Umbrella Revolution.
That someone is hipster YouTuber Michael Lai, described as “singer-guitarist on the outside; Kidult inside; dreamer during the day; busker at night” on his Michael Makes Musicchannel.
Matched with perfectly fitting photographs of the Occupy Hong Kong protests, the lyrics of “I Promise You An Umbrella” will surely speak to the heart of anyone who has been out on the Hong Kong streets demanding universal suffrage over the past two weeks.
