This video, uploaded by DCVideo to YouTube, juxtaposes audio from the 2012 chief executive election debates with surreal close-up footage of the Sep. 28 police crackdown on the protests, to dramatic effect.
During the debates, candidate Henry Tang asked CY Leung whether or not Leung had suggested that riot police and tear gas be used to quell protests in 2003. The video uses the following lines:
Tang: "Have you ever said that there will eventually be a time when Hong Kong will need to crack down on protesters with riot squads and tear gas? I will you give you one more chance : yes, or no?"
Leung: "I have absolutely never said that."
The resulting video is disturbing and at times, hard to believe that it isn't a movie trailer.
Here's a video from the debate, with subtitles.
After Leung first answered the question, Tang even says point-blank: "You are lying. Don't tell lies."
The audience laughs.
