As Occupy winds down, House News set to return
Pro-democracy website House News, which closed in July, will return as soon as next month, just as the Occupy protest is winding down, Apple Daily reported Wednesday, citing reports from internet radio DBC.
Former chief curator Mike Yee confirmed that the new website will be operational by the end of December or early January, but its name will most likely be changed.
Although operations have yet to start, reporters have been deployed to cover events and interview news sources, so there will be enough news stories and features when the website goes online, Yu said.
He said the company will resort to crowdfunding to support operations while minimizing intervention from investors. Its new office will be in Kwun Tong.
In July, founder Tony Tsoi announced he was closing down the site amid growing political pressure and a “white terror” campaign. The closure came just months before the Occupy campaign, one of the biggest political events in Hong Kong’s history, kicked off.
After the closure, its contributors set up a bloggers group to continue to publish their stories online.
