Hong Kong police have regained control of roads around the government headquarters after another night of violence and running battles with protesters.

After re-occupying Lung Wo Road and blocking the walkways from Admiralty and the main staff entrance to LegCo overnight, protesters have now been forced back to their main site on Harcourt Road.

Police, armed with helmets, shields and batons, unleashed force and pepper spray on hundreds, possibily thousands, of students and pro-democracy demonstrators.

According to the SCMP, some were left “bloodied” and needed to received medical treatment from the onsite makeshift clinics.

At around 8am this morning, police were reportedly taunting protesters from the bridge above the protest site, clapping and laughing at them.

The government has released an announcement advising staff not to come in to work today as the LegCo offices are temporarily closed. Committee meetings and public hearings have also been cancelled.
