Pro-establishment candidates have won almost 70 percent of the 431 seats up for grabs in the District Council elections, with the DAB retaining its status as the biggest party with 119 seats.
DAB leader Starry Lee and fellow legislators Ben Chan and Leung Che-cheung were among the many winners. Altogether, over 70 percent of DAB candidates won.
However, two prominent DAB legislators suffered upset losses: Elizabeth Quat fell to the Labour Party's Yip Wing in Shatin, while Christopher Chung was upset in Eastern district by political newcomer Chui Chi-kin, a so-called "Umbrella soldier" who was inspired to run by last year's Occupy protests. Chui, who's considered to be a pro-democracy candidate, had joined the race on the last day with the express purpose of forcing Chung out of the District Council.
Lee said her party is satisfied with some aspects of the election, while there are areas that she said will be reviewed.
Other pro-government parties also did well.
The Federation of Trade Unions won almost 30 seats, led by election wins by lawmakers Wong Kwok-hing and Bill Tang. New People's Party lawmaker Michael Tien won his race against his former assistant in Tsuen Wan. He was one of his party's 24 winners.
However, as a whole, the pro-establishment camp actually did marginally worse compared with the 2011 elections, when they won around three-quarters of the elected seats.
