The Hong Kong government has warned citizens not to travel to France in the wake of Friday’s terrorist attacks in Paris, while French visitors in Hong Kong can apply for an extension of stay.
The Immigration Department announced this morning that special attention will be given to French applicants looking to extend their stays in Hong Kong due to the multiple attacks that left 129 dead and 352 injured. The department said that most extensions would be approved the same day.
Meanwhile, an amber Outbound Travel Alert was issued by the government on Saturday, advising Hongkongers not to visit France unless absolutely necessary.
A government spokesman said, "Residents who plan to visit France or are already there should monitor the situation, exercise caution, attend to personal safety, avoid travelling to places of large gatherings of people and pay attention to advice of the local authorities. Hong Kong residents should avoid non-essential travel to Paris and the Ile de France area.”
The Security Bureau will issue any further updates through the media and on itswebsite.
Residents who need assistance in France can call the 24-hour hotline on (+852) 1868 or contact the Chinese Embassy in France on (+33) 6157 42537.
