The Acting Chief Executive, Carrie Lam, said on Tuesday that a new Maritime Authority being set up by the government will take up a wide range of functions to enhance the logistics and maritime industry in Hong Kong.
Speaking at the Asian Logistics and Maritime Conference, Lam said the new body "will have the capacity to undertake policy research and development, pursue marketing and external relations, and develop manpower and training".
She stressed the importance of the initiative, noting that the maritime industry accounts for about 24 percent of Hong Kong’s gross domestic product.
