The Chinese embassy in Mali has confirmed that 10 of the more than 100 hostages taken by Islamist gunmen in Mali are mainlanders. But it said there were no Hong Kong people among them.
Reports said that 10 gunmen attacked the Radisson Blu Hotel in the capital Bamako.
Automatic weapons fire was heard inside the hotel and as many as 170 people said to have been taken hostage.
