The ICAC says it is not going to press charges against a senior Lands Department official accused of conflict of interest due to a lack of evidence.
Questions had been raised over Anita Lam's purchase of 8,000 square metres of farmland in Kam Tin in 2012 -- in an area under her supervision. It was just outside an area where the government later announced plans to build a new town.
But the ICAC said the Department of Justice was of the view that there isn't enough evidence to prove that the Assistant Lands Director had committed any crime.
However, a Lands Department spokesman said it would consider whether the case warrants a disciplinary hearing. He added that in future, all top officials may need to consult management before they make any lands-related investments.
