A porn site is the latest repository of controversial comments by former education minister Arthur Li and a fellow council member of the University of Hong Kong (HKU).
Leaked recordings of their remarks have surfaced on ThisAV.com, a sexually explicit Hong Kong website, Ming Pao Daily reports.
Li and Leonie Ki are heard making disparaging comments about Johannes Chan before the then HKU pro vice chancellor-nominee was rejected by the council.
The recordings are trending, with Li collecting more than 13,700 hits and Ki attracting more than 16,800 at this writing.
Commercial Radio first aired a recording of Li’s remarks on Oct. 28 and those of Ki two days later.
On Monday, HKU won a court injunction against any further airing of the recording or any public release of transcripts.
The porn site version is thought to be a back-up copy not specifically covered by the injunction, according to reports.
Netizens praised ThisAV’s move, calling the website the “voice of conscience”.
But some users called the recordings “distracting” and the “worst thing” to happen to the website.
Others said these gave them an excuse to make repeated visits to the site without feeling sneaky or guilty.
In fact, this isn’t the first time porn was used in conjunction with social or political issues.
In 2012, ThisAV closed for a day in support of a protest against a proposed national education program.
It used the occasion to urge netizens to stand behind a hunger strike by members of the student activist group Scholarism.
