Alvin Yeung talks to RTHK’s Chloe Lam

Civic Party lawmaker Alvin Yeung has criticised the government for excluding young individuals from funds aimed at encouraging innovation and technology.

He said that imaginative and creative youngsters may not have a company or not attached to any organisation, and the fund should be made available to them also.

The plan for the fund was announced by the Chief Executive during his last policy address. The government revealed more details about the proposed HK$500 million fund in a paper submitted to the Legco on Monday.

The fund – meant to finance the development of mobile apps, software, and devices or services designed to improve people's lives –will be available to groups like non-profit organisations, professional bodies and trade associations. They can apply for subsidies of up to HK$5 million.

Yeung told RTHK’s Chloe Lam that the proposals should be amended to make eligible individuals also to benefit from the plan.
