The Housing Authority's tender committee has postponed a decision on further penalties for contractors linked to the lead contaminated water in some public housing estates. The committee was to decide the matter on Friday.

But the chairman of the committee, Cheung Tat-tong, denied that it was dragging its feet. Speaking after the committee meeting, Cheung said the authority is still considering different proposals.

He said the committee hopes to come up with a decision before the tender for three housing projects comes out in early November.

Cheung said the committee has already penalised the contractors by not considering their bids for the recently tendered construction projects.

In an interim report completed earlier this month, a committee of the authority looking into the scandal said that soldering material used to join pipes were to blame for the lead contamination found at 11 public housing estates.
