The outgoing chairman of Hong Kong University's governing body, Leong Che-hung, has said he has no idea who is going to succeed him, despite widespread rumours that it will be council member, Arthur Li.
Mr Leong, who will step down from the position on November 6, also insisted that nobody had tried to pressure or influence him during his six-year term.
Calls have been growing for laws that make the chief executive the chancellor of all the city’s public universities to be amended, following claims of political interference in how the institutions are currently being governed.
But Mr Leong said the current system had proven to be effective and more discussion is needed before any changes are made.
