Thomas Nelson fell and died.

The mystery has deepened into how a British man plunged to his death from a block of flats in the Mid-Levels on Thursday - just hours after being discharged from hospital - as it emerged he sought treatment at two medical facilities the previous day.

Thomas Nelson, 31, was found unconscious on a slope at the rear of St Joan Court, MacDonnell Road, and declared dead by paramedics at the scene.

Police said Nelson went to Caritas Canossa Hospital on Wednesday afternoon after playing a rugby match and feeling dizzy. He returned home before heading to Queen Mary Hospital when the symptoms persisted.

He was admitted and spent one night in the Pok Fu Lam hospital before being discharged on Thursday morning. Both hospitals declined to comment.

Police said there appeared to be no suspicious circumstances and no suicide note was found.

Nelson was well known in rugby circles, playing most recently for the Hong Kong Cricket Club.

Deacon Manu, head coach of HKCC Rugby, said: "Tom Nelson was a great teammate and friend to many of us. His tragic death will be keenly felt by everyone involved with HKCC Rugby."

A spokeswoman for Britain's Foreign and Commonwealth Office said it was ready to provide support to Nelson's family.
