Michael Tien speaks to RTHK's Janice Wong
The chairman of the Legislative Council's Panel on Transport, Michael Tien, said the closure of the Lantau-Link on Friday that was triggered by a cargo vessel allegedly smashing into the Kap Shui Mun Bridge, and Sunday night's Macau ferry accident, showed the government needs to focus more on sea traffic management.
Tien said the incident on Friday could have been prevented if there was sea patrol in the area, and if sensors were installed on the bridge to sound out warning to vessels that breached the height limit.
Tien told RTHK’s Janice Wong that he hopes to discuss the matter in the council on Wednesday.
On Sunday night, a Hong Kong-bound ferry from Macau hit an unidentified object near Siu A Chau and 124 people had to be hospitalised after the accident.
