An assistant immigration director is leading a probe into why a batch of forms containing personal information of 460 travellers went missing. The investigation – led by a task force – is looking at whether anyone was neglectful or handled anything improperly.
The declaration forms concerned are dated September 28 from the Sha Tau Kok border control point. Officers spent days looking for them, but to no avail. The Immigration Department then called for police assistance.
The Department said it believed it is an isolated incident, and said the forms do not contain information of Hong Kong residents.
The Privacy Commission, meanwhile, confirmed that they were informed by the department about the incident. It will decide whether to start its own probe into the matter after assessing factors such as the nature of the case and the type of information leaked.
