The government is planning to tender out a massive commercial project in Kai Tak next year. It is asking developers to express interest in the development and operation of the 229,000 square metre site at the centre of the former runway.
Shops, hotels and offices are expected to take up 40 percent of the floor space, while the rest will be used for entertainment purposes such as a cinema complex.
But the government said the proportion was preliminary, and that the highest bidder might not win the project if it does not offer the best design and a sustainable financial plan.
