Lau Ping-Cheun talks to RTHK's Janice Wong
A member of the government-appointed Lantau Development Advisory Committee has played down concerns over the environmental impact of the new development plans for Lantau island.
Lau Ping-cheung was speaking on Monday after the committee put forward proposals to develop 14 tourism and recreation sites on the island.
They include more than a dozen tourism and recreation sites, including adventure parks, an ice rink and star gazing facilities. The new sites would be linked with cable cars, funicular railways and waters taxis.
Lau said even if all the new attractions are built, most of the island would be left untouched. He told RTHK’s Janice Wong that environmental impact assessments would ensure that a right balance is achieved.
