Transport Secretary Anthony Cheung has conceded that not all of the express trains on the future cross-border line will arrive at their Guangzhou South destination in 48 minutes as originally touted.
Once the troubled project is finally completed, now slated for 2018, some trains will make stops en route.
Cheung said SAR officials still had to consult their mainland counterparts about schedules for the new line and the number of direct services will depend on passenger demand.
Cheung insisted the government had not sought to mislead people, saying the 48-minute journeys promised had only ever referred to direct services.
