Thirteen local green groups have called on the government to make sure effective measures to protect the environment are in place before a proposed development to the north of Lantau starts.
They said work on the proposed Tung Chung New Town development extension poses a threat to the effectiveness of the nearby Brothers Marine Park and the Chinese white dolphin population. So proper mitigation and compensation methods should be in place, the groups say.
Samantha Lee from WWF-Hong Kong also said all construction barges should be barred from entering the marine park.
