An unexpected meeting on Friday evening between pan-democrat lawmakers and representatives of the Copyright Alliance has failed to resolve a deadlock over the controversial Copyright Amendment Bill.

Pan-democrats are filibustering the bill which critics say will curtail online freedom of expression.

Both the industry and the government have also rejected three amendments proposed by the pan-democrats to increase netizens' online protection.

Speaking after the meeting, an Alliance spokesman, Sam Ho, urged lawmakers to debate the contents of the bill and stop the filibuster.

The meeting was arranged by Commerce Secretary Greg So, who said it featured "frank exchanges" from both sides, but declined to comment if the two sides' differences have been narrowed.
