Pan-democratic lawmakers said they will continue to deploy filibustering tactics when the council resumes its second reading of the Copyright Amendment Bill two weeks later.
They said after meeting with Legco President, Tsang Yok-sing, that their responsibility is to address the concerns of the public. Tsang had met the lawmakers after the council debate was adjourned again on Thursday due to a lack of quorum.
Democratic Party chairwoman Emily Lau said the mysterious disappearance of book publisher Lee Bo had highlighted the threats posed to Hong Kong. She said it was therefore up to Commerce Secretary Greg So, to alleviate these concerns.
Meanwhile the People Power's Albert Chan said the Legco president had indicated he would set a timeframe for the bill discussions.
Chan and fellow party lawmaker Ray Chan and Leung Kwok-hung from League of Social Democrats said they were opposed to any restrictions to discussions in the amendment stage.
Speaking later Tsang said as president he can do only what is allowed under the rules of the houses. “I will make use of the mechanism the rules allow to ensure the proper functioning of the house,” he said.
