Two young Nepalese brothers have been reunited with their father after fast-closing MTR doors led to a 20 hour separation, it has been reported.
Banthamagar Pawan-kumar, 11, and Banthamagar Anjan, 14, were visiting their Hong Kong-residing parents, when they were separated from their father.
Apple Daily (as translated by EJI) reports that the boys' failed to follow their dad onto a train at Yau Ma Tei station before the doors closed on Saturday afternoon.
Their father could not find the boys after he returned to the station, and reported them missing to the police.
The brothers, who do not speak English or Cantonese, had enough money to buy a little water as they wandered the streets, but couldn't afford any food.
The pair reportedly slept on the streets, and were subsequently found by police the next morning at around 11am on Lockhart Road in Wan Chai.
Police did not detect any suspicious circumstances, and found no injuries on the travelling tykes. The brothers were given some food by police officers before their undoubtedly relieved parents came to pick them up from the station.
Hong Kong Unison, an NGO dedicated to helping local ethnic minorities, said parents should teach their children not to wander if they get lost.
