A massive white banner reading, "Don't forget 6.4. See you at Vic Park" was spotted on Beacon Hill earlier today, and remained hanging over rush hour traffic on busy Lung Cheung Road before it was removed by firefighters.
The banner, measuring around 25 metres long and three metres wide, was hung by members of the League of Social Democrats, according to the political party's officialFacebook page.
Firefighters removed the banner by about 9:35am, Oriental Daily reports. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department has been informed and is currently investigating if LSD hung the banner within country park boundaries, reports Sing Tao Daily.
Commemoration of the 1989 Tiananmen massacre has been the topic of much debate in the city recently after the Hong Kong Federation of Students withdrew from the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements in China, the official organisers of the vigil in Victoria Park.
Instead of attending the annual vigil, 11 student unions have planned forums at their respective institutions. Some schools are hosting a forum called "On Hong Kong's future through the meaning of June 4th", reports HKFP.
According to a spokesperson for the federation, some members objected to the Alliance's aim to "build a democratic China", instead preferring to focus on reform within Hong Kong.
