Students issue ultimatum to C Y Leung

University students who're on the second day of a week-long class strike have issued an ultimatum to the Chief Executive C Y Leung.

They say they will escalate their protest action unless he meets with them by Thursday to hear their demands for true universal suffrage.

The students held a rally at Tamar Park Tuesday, but the numbers that took part was far fewer than the estimated turnout of 13,000 who attended a rally at the Chinese University on Monday.

Earlier in the day, about 20 students tried to rush through barriers outside the Chief Executive's Office to approach C Y Leung as he arrived to attend the Executive Council meeting.

The group couldn't get close, and Mr Leung didn't address the students.

The general secretary of the Federation of Students, Alex Chow, warned that the group will escalate their action if Mr Leung doesn't talk to them directly by Thursday.

Speaking to reporters, Mr Leung said he agreed with students' demands for democracy - but with conditions.

Some secondary school students are also planning to boycott classes on Friday.
