Joshua Wong pelted with eggs outside courtroom, ’injured in groin’ by police

It’s not been a good week for Joshua Wong. After being dragged away from the Mong Kok protest site andarrested on Wednesday, he reports being deliberately “injured in the groin” by police and verbally abused while in custody.

To add insult to injury and insult, the Scolarism frontman was then pelted with eggs today after being released on bail following a hearing at Kowloon City Court. According to Apple Daily, the two egg throwers were immediately subdued by police, but not before Hong Kong’s most politically prolific teenager got egg on his face… or at least in his hair. We hear that's very conditioning.

Wong has been charged with obstructing bailiffs who were clearing barricades at the Mong Kok protest site on Wednesday. A court injunction gave the bailiffs permission to move into the area with police protection while carrying out their duties.

As a condition of his bail, Wong has been banned from entering the area of Mong Kok bound by Fai Yuen Street to the east, Dundas Street to the south, Shanghai Street to the west and Mong Kok Road to the north, even though this area is larger than that covered by the injunction.

According to the SCMP, Wong was denied permission to enter the area to make blood donations, but permitted to travel through “on transport or in transit” on his way to university.

The student was not asked to enter a plea at the hearing, but his lawyer stressed to reporters outside that his client did not obstruct the bailiffs or police.

The case has been adjourned until Jan. 14.

Wong is one of dozens of protesters, including his HKFS counterpart Lester Shum and badboy lawmaker “Long Hair” Leung Kwok-hung, to face charges relating to this week’s removal of the Mong Kok site.
