Raimondi College alumni slam police chief Andy Tsang
Raimondi College alumni have slammed Hong Kong police chief Andy Tsang for turning a blind eye to his subordinates’ improper conduct during the handling of the Occupy protests.
Nearly 200 former students of Raimondi College, a prestigious secondary school located at Robinson Road in Mid-Levels, took out a joint newspaper advertisement to condemn Tsang, Ming Pao Daily News reported Thursday.
The alumni said they support the Umbrella Movement participants, and that Tsang’s comments on the protesters were deeply regrettable.
They pointed out that the government has been unable to resolve the crisis, and that the actions taken by the police have only worsened the conflict within society.
The alumni urged Tsang — who is also a former student of Raimondi College — to follow the footsteps of the college’s late director and handle matters impartially.
Among the alumni who issued the call were Chu Hoi Dick, founder of the Land Justice League; and former government surveyor Mok Siu-man, who has staged a hunger strike for 40 days at the Admiralty protest site.
The group also urged the government to respond to people’s demands. The National People’s Congress decision on the Hong Kong chief executive election framework must be withdrawn, and the functional constituencies must be abolished in the 2016 Legislative Council election, they said.
Ng Siu-hong, one of the former Raimondi College students involved in the exercise, said they had raised around HK$30,000 for the initiative.
After paying for the advertisement, they still have a few thousand dollars left in the kitty, he said, adding that the surplus cash will be donated to either to Occupy protesters or an education fund.
