The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Anthony Cheung, says the test results for lead on water-samples taken from 10 public housing estates should be ready within the next week.
The authorities will then consider expanding the scope of inspections, depending on the manpower and resources available.
Professor Cheung also defended the method the authorities used in obtaining water samples, saying government chemists and experts from the Water Supplies Department have adhered to sampling methods commonly used overseas.
