Barristers launch campaign over China arrests

The mainland is being urged to respect the detained lawyers' rights. Photo: RTHKA group of prominent Hong Kong lawyers have launched an international signature campaign in support of the hundreds of human rights lawyers and activists detained or taken in for questioning on the mainland recently.

Those behind the campaign include 13 former presidents of the Bar Association, three current and former legal sector legislators, and all 30 legal subsector representatives on the chief executive election committee.

The petition denounces the authorities' harassment of lawyers, and demands open and fair trials for those accused of wrongdoing.
