Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying sought to brush aside the fact state- run Xinhua News Agency did not report his meeting with National People's Congress chairman Zhang Dejiang and other state officials.
He also said that top officials in Beijing were satisfied with the work of the SAR administration.
On coverage of the meeting with Zhang, Leung said the Hong Kong media covered it extensively so officials had sources for reports. Also, TV stations had covered him entering the Great Hall of the People and meeting with Zhang.
He stressed that he reported to Zhang on his administration's work and had briefed the media on those meetings.
"I have already told you about Zhang's comments on my work and that of the SAR government," Leung underlined before attending the Executive Council's weekly meeting yesterday.
He added that after the meeting Zhang had reaffirmed his satisfaction with his work and that of the administration.
Leung's session with Zhang was the first time a top Beijing official had met the chief executive since the political reform proposal was voted down in the Legislative Council on June 18.
Also yesterday, Democratic Party legislators met with Leung and Chief Secretary Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor.
Democrat chairwoman Emily Lau Wai-hing said party legislators asked Leung to help resolve the lead-tainted water worries at public housing estates and to restart efforts on political reform. EDDIE LUK
