IT Bureau funding request blocked again

Secretary for Commerce Greg So. Photo: Candice Wong, RTHK.The Legislative Council has again delayed voting on the funding request relating to the start-up of a controversial Innovation and Technology Bureau.

It's the second time in a year that the item has been delayed, and meant it could not be passed before the Legislative Council breaks for its summer recess.

Secretary for Commerce, Greg So, said he found the meeting's progress slow, but he aims to garner support from pan-democratic lawmakers - most of whom opposed the setup of the I-T-B - before the council resumes in October.

Business and Professionals Alliance legislator, Priscilla Leung, says the pro-establishment camp is disappointed that the I-T-B funding is being shelved again.

People Power lawmaker, Albert Chan, however, says the pan-democrats will continue to filibuster the I-T-B funding request to stop it from passing, if the government fails to provide an amended proposal for the proposed I-T Bureau.
