The Legislative Council's Housing Panel has rejected a motion by the Democratic Party's Wu Chi-wai to set up a select committee under the Powers and Privileges Ordinance to investigate the tainted water scandal.

While eight pan-democratic lawmakers voted in favour, 10 pro-establishment councillors rejected the motion.

Mr Wu's Democratic Party colleague, Helena Wong, expressed disappointment with the outcome, saying that she's worried that the Commission of Inquiry set up by the Chief Executive would fall short of finding out exactly who should be held accountable for the lead contamination.
