Fujian Province was the scene of heart-stopping drama as rescuers threw children to safety from the second-story window of a flaming building.
Although details are still trickling in, initial reports say the fire started in either a supermarket or a florist shop on the first floor of the Juchi Commercial Center in the City of Ningde this morning at around 11:30. Soon after, the Dongmendou kindergarten on the second floor filled with smoke as the fire spread.
Both firefighters and civilians tried to evacuate the children from the second-story kindergarten using ladders. As the fire quickly spread, the rescuers resorted to simply throwing the children down to the crowd below.
Miraculously, all of the children were safely evacuated from the burning building, and the fire has since been extinguished.
104 people are reported to have received medical attention, 92 of whom are children. No fatalities were reported, and the severity of the injuries of the victims remains unknown.
The Dongmendou kindergarten is said to have approximately 300 students.
